Ford will build a battery plant in Turkey

Ford has partnered with South Korean battery maker SK On to create the largest EV battery plant in Turkey. The plant is located near Ankara and will have an annual production capacity of 30-45 gigawatt-hours.

The production capacity of the plant is intended to support Ford’s global electrified vehicle strategy. The plant will produce high-nickel NMC cells for assembly into battery array modules. The cells will be used in dual-motor electric vehicles. the partnership hopes to revolutionize the automotive industry.

Ford and SK Global have partnered together on an $8.22 billion deal. Now, they’re adding to the deal. Ford will open a new factory in Turkey to build its new Transit Commercial vehicle, the first entirely new model from the automaker in two decades. Full electric and hybrid versions will be included, with production set to begin in 2023.

The announcement follows Ford’s decision last year to invest $8.22 billion with SK to build three battery plants in the United States.
