Steve Smith ruled out of PAK Vs AUS ODI & T20 Matches

Steve Smith will miss the one-day and T20 matches against Pakistan to manage a left elbow injury. The Australian team physiotherapist said that Smith had a previous elbow injury he is trying to recover from, and they pulled him out of the matches with Pakistan as a precaution.

“We’ve taken this decision following consultation with the Australian team medical staff and specialists,” said Team Physiotherapist Alex Kontouris. Now the opening batsman is set to miss the upcoming ODI and T20I series against Pakistan to allow more time for rehabilitation.

Smith stated that he does not think of his injury as an issue of major importance. “But by keeping at the forefront of issues today, we can make sure that it doesn’t grow into something bigger later on,” he added.

It was discovered following Australia’s victory at the end of the Third Test at Lahore which gave an unprecedented 1-0 victory in Pakistan in the third Test, that Smith felt a bit uncomfortable during the three-match series.

Legspinner Mitchell Swepson will replace him in the squad for the three ODIs that will start on Wednesday at Lahore as well as the single T20 on 5 April.
