Uvalde tx: 14 students and 1 teacher were killed in Texas elementary school

A gunman entered the campus of Uvalde Elementary school on Tuesday and opened fire: 14 children and a teacher were killed. Authorities say the suspected shooter was later shot dead by law enforcement officials.

Details of the attack came at a rapid-fire pace from witnesses and official sources alike in the hours after the massacre.

Abbott stated Tuesday afternoon that Abbott had shot and killed 14 students and a teacher. He is now dead. According to some reports, he was killed by responding officers. Abbott also stated that two officers were injured in an exchange of gunfire with the shooter. He said they sustained no life-threatening injuries.

In an interview, Uvalde Memorial Hospital spokesperson Tom Nordwick said that there were two fatalities when the patients first arrived. Thirteen children are being treated in the emergency room of Uvalde Memorial Hospital and a 45-year-old man was brought in, Nordwick said.

According to a social media statement, University Health San Antonio said that a 66-year old woman is in critical condition. One child is also being treated.

After an alleged shooter was neutralized at Uvalde High School, students were taken to the school gymnasium for reunification with their parents. However, the school district requested that parents do not come to pick up their children — they instead said they would notify the families when everyone was safe and accounted for.

Uvalde County, located in South Texas, has a population of around 25,000. It is home to Robb Elementary School which had 535 students this past year, 90% of whom are Hispanic and 81% of whom are economically disadvantaged.

In a statement, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said that President Joe Biden was briefed on the attack and has been in touch with officials from multiple agencies. He will address the nation at 8.15 pm ET from the Roosevelt Room to provide an update on the tragedy that happened.

This is going to be a very heartbreaking and tragic thing for the town.
